“Surely Allah commands justice and the doing of good (to others)…”
Qur’an Surah Al-Nahl -16:90
As Muslims, part of our faith is to improve our society and support the needy both home and abroad. That is why we have undertaken many projects to do just that and here we showcase some of our impact.
Supporting The Local Community
We strive to serve the needs of the local Muslim community and build relations with the wider non-Muslim community. We are committed to a peaceful and prosperous Chelmsford where communities learn from each other and work together for the common good.
Community Activities
Over the years CMS has arranged a number of activities in association with organisation such as Active Essex, CVS, Sports England, Chess, Relax Kids, Chelmsford Food Bank, Essex Police and Essex Cultural Diversity Project amongst others. Activities included, healthy cooking workshops, summer kids clubs, Afghan refugee support, toddler groups, fitness exercises, health talks, life saver classes, smartphone/screen time workshops, running of a food-bank and feeding the homeless. Many events are also run at Caffe Marconi for the community.
Give Blood
“Whoever saves a life, it will be as if they saved all of humanity” Qur’an 5:32
CMS provide the NHS Blood and Transplant team a cost effective and convenient location to carry out blood collections. Just 1 donation can save up to 3 lives. so book your slot at www.blood.co.uk today.
Defibrillators At Our Locations
We have had defibrillators installed at both our locations. A defibrillator is a device that gives a high energy electric shock to the heart of someone who is in cardiac arrest. This high energy shock is called defibrillation, and it’s an essential part in trying to save the life of someone who’s in cardiac arrest. A big thank you to those who managed the project and donated.
Public Access Defibrillators (PAD) can be used by anyone at any time. The device voices instructions to guide anyone on how to use it.
Community Bus
A generous donor from our congregation donated a minibus for the use of our community. It is being used to transport the elderly to the Hamptons Centre to socialising, attending classes and for the Muslims to attend prayers. It is also used for youth activities and revert days out.
Humanitarian Aid
Helping the needy is a fundamental part of the Islamic faith and we have raised thousands of pounds over the years, as well as much needed aid for many global appeals – helping countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Yemen, The Gambia, Zanzibar and more recently Ukraine and Turkey.
As well as fundraising and collecting in the UK, CMS have sent teams to Greece, Dunkirk, Pakistan and Bangladesh to help on the ground.
Outreach
Mosque Open Days
CMS has held a number of Mosque Open Days with the aim to foster a better understanding of the Islamic faith and culture whilst eradicating some of the misconceptions non-Muslims may have.
Mosque Visits
Chelmsford Mosque has been regularly hosting educational visits and tours for Scouts and Schools since 2003. We also make school visit.
The prepared visit lasts 2 hours and comprises of a talk on the history of the Mosque, a tour, a talk on Islam focusing on prayer and a Q&A session. For younger guests it includes an interactive dressing up session.
School visits are led by either a qualified teacher who is on SACRE (Standing Advisory Council of Religious Education) and wrote the school curriculum for Islam, or by one of our Imams
The experience of visiting a mosque can help students and visitors greatly to learn more about the Islamic faith and dispel some of the misconceptions.
Interfaith
We at CMS believe it is essential to promote the message of understanding and respect between Muslim and non-Muslim communities here in Chelmsford. It is of paramount importance that at a time when secularism is at an increase, religious communities and especially those of the Abrahamic faiths, work closer together for the good of society at large.
